India becomes top source of international students to Canada: IRCC

According to statistics released by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), India has now become the largest source of International students to the North American nation, with Canada witnessing the arrival of 226,450 Indian students in 2022 alone.

Coming in second and third on the list were China and the Philippines, with  52,165 and 23,380 nationals of each country arriving in Canada to pursue higher studies in 2022 respectively. Canada, in total, welcomed a record-breaking 551,405 international students from 184 nations in 2022.

In comparison, 2021 saw the North American nation welcoming 444,260 international students.

As of December last year, India also stands as one of the top 10 countries with nationals already studying and residing in Canada with 319,130 students.

A whopping 4.8 million visa applications were processed by Canada in 2022, with the IRCC adding that Canada is now processing applications within the standard 60-day duration.

Immigrants, especially international students, make up an integral part of Canada’s economy, with the Canadian government citing that $15.3 billion is directed to the economy annually due to international students.
