Indian Women’s Boxing Team Wins 4 Gold Medals at World Boxing Championship

Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain won a gold medal each in the Women’s World Boxing Championships taking the total to four gold medals for India. The fight took place on Sunday in New Delhi, India, and the Indian team also bagged the Best Team Award.

The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023 finals took place on Sunday and India’s Nikhat Zareen fought Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam in the 50kg weight class while Lovlina Borgohain fought Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the 75kg weight class. Zareen won her fight 5-0 and Borgohain ended with a score of 5-2, both securing a gold medal.

The updates from the fight were shared on Twitter with videos showing the moments the duo was announced as victors and the crowd going wild. Lovlina Borgohain became the eighth Indian woman to have this honor. This tournament was the second time Indian won multiple medals after 2006 when MC Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, and Lekha KC won a gold medal each in their respective weight categories.

The Indian team also won the Best Team Award at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023.

Zareen and Borgohain’s were the third and fourth gold medals for Indian overall. On Saturday, Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) also won gold in their respective categories.
