Ikoma City authorities in Western Japan have launched an investigation to determine the cause behind a peculiar phenomenon in which the water of a river flowing through the town has taken on a vibrant lime green hue, causing understandable unease among citizens.

A video capturing the unusual sight was shared on social media by a local resident on Wednesday, further highlighting the peculiar transformation of the Tatsuta River.

Upon receiving reports about the discolored water, officials from Nara Prefecture promptly conducted tests to assess its potential impact on public health. Fortunately, the results indicate that the water is non-toxic, as confirmed by the public broadcaster NHK. However, as a precautionary measure, Ikoma city hall has advised farmers to refrain from using the water for agricultural purposes until its safety can be unequivocally established.
