Jalandhar Police Officer Clings to Bonnet As Car Drives for a Kilometer Before Escaping

A Jalandhar police officer was dragged on top of a car’s bonnet for about a kilometer when the driver refused to stop after the cop asked him to. The cop fell off the bonnet when the car slowed down and the occupants escaped. The occupants and the car has been identified and the police say they will be arrested soon.

A video showing a cop holding on to a moving car’s bonnet has surfaced online. It shows CCTV footage of a Jalandhar Traffic Head Constable named Hardeep Singh clinging on to the car’s bonnet as it drives around Mata Rani Chowk in Ludhiana. According to the individual who shared the video on Twitter, the cop asked the car to stop because the driver was using his phone. However, the driver did not stop and instead hit Singh causing him to jump up on the bonnet.

The car drove for about a kilometer towards Jalandhar bypass and when it slowed down for traffic, the cop fell. The occupants then managed to escape along with the vehicle.

In the video, the cop can be seen hanging on to the bonnet as the car stops at a point and then starts to drive in reverse.

Ludhiana’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramandeep Singh said that the occupants of the car have been identified and have criminal records. They will be arrested soon. He added that something illegal could have been in the car at the time. The ACP shared that a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the assailants.
