Manuke ‘house on rent’: 76-yr old NRI handed over keys of her home, family demands action against AAP MLA
However, senior Congress leader and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that it was a clear attempt by MLA Manuke to "grab NRI's property in connivance with land mafia" and had the old woman not flown back to flag the issue, the MLA would have "eventually become the owner of the property."
Manuke ‘house on rent’: 76-yr old NRI handed over keys of her home, family demands action against AAP MLA
Jagraon: Nearly two weeks after a 76-year old woman Amarjit Kaur from Canada had flown to India and filed a police complaint against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Jagraon MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke for “illegally occupying and living in her house” in Heera Bagh colony of the town, the Ludhiana rural police Wednesday handed over the keys of the house to the NRI woman.
Since the row had erupted, MLA Manuke had claimed that she had taken the house on rent from one Karam Singh who had claimed to be the owner of the house, and had started living in it with her family. After the NRI woman’s complaint, an inquiry was initiated by Ludhiana rural police to ascertain the actual owner of the house. Two days ago on June 19, the police registered an FIR against one Ashok Kumar of Jagraon on the complaint of Karam Singh after the latter claimed that Kumar sold him the house in May this year on the basis of “fake power of attorney”.
However, senior Congress leader and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that it was a clear attempt by MLA Manuke to “grab NRI’s property in connivance with land mafia” and had the old woman not flown back to flag the issue, the MLA would have “eventually become the owner of the property.”
On Wednesday, SP (investigation) Harinderpal Singh Parmar along with Karam Singh handed over the keys of the house to Amarjit Kaur. The family however claimed that even though they have got their house keys back, the police have still not booked the MLA and others who prepared the fake power of attorney of their house and then got the registry done. Kuldeep Kaur, daughter-in-law of Amarjit Kaur, who has accompanied her to India, said: “We have been handed over the keys of the house by Karam Singh and SP Parmar but what about the FIR against the real culprits? We demand an FIR against MLA Manuke who was living in our house without checking who was the real owner, Karam Singh who bought the house on the basis of fake power of attorney and everyone else who was involved in this land grabbing racket. Even the FIR against Ashok Kumar has not been registered on our complaint but that of Karam Singh despite the fact that they all did this together in connivance with each other.”
Ludhiana rural SSP Navneet Singh Bains however claimed that Karam Singh and Amarjit Kaur have entered a “compromise.” “Karam Singh handed over the keys to Amarjit Kaur after it was found that the house was sold to him on the basis of a fake power of attorney and an FIR has been registered in the matter against Ashok Kumar. Karamjit Singh has also submitted in writing that the ownership of the house should again be transferred in Amarjit Kaur’s name. The revenue department will take a final call on this,” said the SSP.
Congress MLA Khaira meanwhile tweeted: “Many congratulation to NRI’s worldwide that finally @BhagwantMann govt handed over the keys of Jagraon house to rightful owner NRI Amarjit Kaur of Canada along with an affidavit by Karam Singh who forged the registration deed to grab the property with the support of Aam Aadmi Party Mla Saravjit Manuke. Our fight for action against this group of land mafia will continue until all the cheats are arrested. Our plan to visit Jagraon SSP office tomorrow stands as announced.”
