Mass Stabbing Incident Shocks Downtown Vancouver: Suspect Fatally Shot by Police
The confrontation reportedly occurred inside a 7-Eleven store.
A shocking stabbing incident unfolded in downtown Vancouver on Wednesday, leaving multiple victims injured before police fatally shot the suspect. The chaotic scene, centered near Robson and Hamilton streets, gripped the city with fear and concern.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) released a statement on social media around noon, confirming officers had responded to a “violent incident.” The confrontation reportedly occurred inside a 7-Eleven store, a bustling area frequented by shoppers and workers.
Mainul Ismal, a delivery driver in the vicinity, shared his firsthand account of the ordeal, describing the situation as “really terrible.” According to Ismal, the suspect initially approached the store counter and revealed a large knife tucked in his waistband.
“It looked like he was trying to steal something,” said Ismal. Despite two employees raising their hands and pleading with the man to take whatever he wanted, the situation quickly escalated. “He got angry, pulled out the knife, and tried to stab them,” Ismal recounted.
Though Ismal could not confirm the exact number of victims, he estimated one or two individuals might have been injured in the attack.
The dramatic police response was partially captured on video, which Ismal later shared with local media. In the footage, three officers can be seen converging on the store’s counter. Two officers had their firearms drawn, while a third appeared to wield a Taser.
