Navjot Singh Arrested For Attempted Carjacking, Was On Bail

A 21-year-old man Navjot Singh, is facing charges following an incident involving an attempted carjacking and the theft of a vehicle and trailer in Newmarket, as reported by the investigators from the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m., law enforcement received a distress call regarding an attempted carjacking in the vicinity of McCaffery Road and Eagle Street West. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the suspect had approached a female victim in her own driveway, demanding the keys to her car. The courageous victim promptly refused and contacted the police. Subsequently, the suspect left the scene but soon encountered a landscaping truck and trailer nearby, which he stole before fleeing the area.

Thanks to the swift response of frontline officers, combined with assistance from the Air Support Unit, the stolen truck was located in close proximity. When officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he collided with several police vehicles. Fortunately, the truck eventually came to a halt, and no injuries were sustained during this incident.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had been previously released on bail for unrelated charges. He had walked from the Newmarket Court House to McCaffery Road before committing the attempted carjacking and vehicle theft.

Charges laid on Navjot Singh are as follows robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, break and enter with intent, theft of motor vehicle over $5,000, flight from peace officer, dangerous operation, failure to comply with judicial release order x2 and obstruct peace officer.
