Most Canadians feel the country is broken, results of a new poll reveal. The Postmedia-Leger national poll found that 67 percent of the people involved in the poll agreed that everything in Canada seems broken. Issues such as rising costs, the state of health care, and more have made people angry about the way Canada is being run.

The Postmedia-Leger national poll was conducted wherein Canadians were asked to what extent they believe in the statement, “it feels like everything is broken in this country right now” stated by a Canadian politician. The research on this data was headed by Andrew Enns, an executive vice-president at the market research company Leger, who found that two-thirds of the participants of the poll, which is 67 percent, agreed everything feels broken.

Almost half of the 67 percent strongly agreed with the statement while 25 percent disagreed out of which only seven percent strongly disagreed. The data also showed 70 percent of women agreed to the statement compared to 64 percent of men. Furthermore, 32 percent of those women strongly agreed, while only 27 percent of the men did.

The poll also asked the participants how they felt about the way Canada was being managed to which 50 percent said they felt angry. Of these, 30 percent said they were “somewhat angry” and 20 percent said they were “very angry.” It was also noted that Albertans were the angriest about Canada’s management. Additionally, respondents from B.C. were the happiest, at 46 percent, Quebec at 44 percent, Ontario at 42 percent, and Manitoba and Saskatchewan (measured together) at 40 percent.

Enns spoke about the results and said, “I didn’t think it would be that high. I thought maybe it was more a noisy minority as opposed to a prevailing majority opinion.” He went on to say, “If you’re in government, regardless of what level — federal, provincial, or municipal — these are your customers, the general population. They all interact with you in some form or fashion, and these are their opinions. And they’re basically saying we don’t like how business is running right now.”

The idea behind this poll had been kicked around for a while and the Conservative Party seems to have been inspired by it, considering Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s statement from November last year, “It feels like everything is broken in this country right now.” PM Justin Trudeau responded by saying that Canada is not broken and that “better is always possible, but I don’t accept Canadians and politicians that talk down our country.”
