New Speed Sign Installed on Busy Mississauga Street Following Fatal Collisions

A new speed sign, also known as a radar speed display, has been implemented on Creditview Road near the Erindale GO Station in response to two tragic fatalities from collisions in recent years. Mississauga Ward 6 Councillor, Joe Horneck, announced the installation of the sign through a Twitter video on July 31.

The radar speed display aims to address the issue of speeding and dangerous collisions on this busy road. Despite a posted speed limit of 60 km/hr, drivers often exceed this limit, leading to hazardous situations. Horneck expresses concern over the excessive speeds witnessed on Creditview Road and highlights the urgent need for measures to reduce such incidents.

Tragically, two fatalities have occurred on this road in the recent past. On March 26, a pedestrian lost their life after being struck by two vehicles around 11:15 p.m. at the junction of Creditview Road and Bristol Road. Horneck recounts the heart-wrenching meeting he had with the victim’s parents.

Another incident, dated back to November 12, 2021, saw a 27-year-old driver lose their life after colliding with a pole on Creditview Road, near the Erindale GO Station.

Adding to the urgency, a MiWay bus crash occurred just last week on July 27, where the bus collided with two other vehicles a few blocks north of Bristol Road West on Creditview Road. The crash resulted in injuries to three individuals, and the bus driver now faces charges of careless driving.

Further illustrating the need for traffic safety measures, on May 1, a car overturned at the intersection of Creditview Road and Bristol Road West.

In response to community concerns, Councillor Horneck also ensured the installation of another speed display sign on Bristol Road near Whitehorn Avenue. This location has also witnessed a cyclist collision in October of the previous year, where an elderly man was hit while cycling in the Blueheron Boulevard and Loonlake Avenue area.

Horneck emphasizes that speeding is a widespread problem throughout the city and urges residents to share information about other areas facing similar challenges. He assures that he is committed to addressing such issues and working towards safer roadways.

The newly installed speed sign on Creditview Road is expected to serve as a valuable tool in promoting safer driving habits and curbing the incidents of speeding and dangerous collisions in the area.
