No Backyard Fireworks in Mississauga Over Labour Day Weekend Without a Permit

As Labour Day weekend approaches, Mississauga residents planning to light up the sky with fireworks are reminded to secure the necessary permits. City officials have emphasized that any fireworks display over the long weekend, including on Labour Day itself, requires a valid permit.

Mississauga’s regulations are clear: fireworks are only permitted without a permit on specific holidays such as Victoria Day, Canada Day, Diwali, Lunar New Year, and New Year’s Eve. The city suggests safer alternatives like glow sticks, noisemakers, or sparklers for those looking to celebrate without fireworks.

To ensure compliance, Mississauga’s bylaw enforcement officers will be out in full force throughout the weekend, with heightened patrols aimed at curbing illegal fireworks use. “Increased patrols and enforcement will take place this weekend to minimize complaints and ensure celebrations stay safe,” city officials stated in a recent social media post.

While fireworks-related complaints in Mississauga have been relatively low, the city remains vigilant. Following Canada Day, 34 complaints were registered, though no charges were laid. During the Victoria Day weekend in May, 29 complaints led to four charges against an illegal fireworks vendor.
