In a significant development, all 11 directors of the Ontario Khalsa Darbar (Dixie Gurdwara) committee were elected unanimously, cancelling the previously scheduled elections on March 30. The decision was announced during a general body meeting held in the main hall of the Gurdwara, which was attended by a large number of members.

According to sources, senior community leaders played a key role in mediating between various groups to avoid the election and instead support the current committee members for another term. As a result, nine existing directors will continue their tenure, joined by two newly elected members, for a three-year term.

The Ontario Khalsa Darbar, one of the largest Gurdwaras in North America, has approximately 7,000 permanent members who elect an 11-member committee to oversee its day-to-day operations. The decision to extend the current leadership’s mandate reflects the community’s support for stability and continuity.

During the meeting, the three-member election commission formally declared the unanimous election results. The commission commended the collaborative efforts of the community leaders, highlighting that their initiative helped avoid a potentially divisive election process.

S. Harpal Singh Saini, president of the outgoing committee and one of the re-elected directors, expressed his gratitude to the Sangat, members, and the broader Sikh community.

“We are deeply thankful for the trust and confidence the community has shown in us. This opportunity allows us to continue serving the Gurdwara Sahib with dedication and commitment,” Saini said.

While the election of directors has been settled, the selection of the committee’s new office bearers is scheduled for March 30. These roles will include key positions such as the president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, which are essential for managing the Gurdwara’s affairs effectively.

The Ontario Khalsa Darbar holds a prominent place in the Sikh community, not only in Canada but across North America. Its leadership continuity is seen as a step toward ensuring consistent services and support for the Sangat.
