Residing in Pakistan, Rode reportedly smuggled Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into India for triggering explosions across Punjab, as per the NIA chargesheet. Happy Malaysia of Amritsar district, on the other hand, was arrested in December 2022 at the Indian Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), Delhi, on his arrival from Malaysia.

Rode had smuggled the IED used in the 2021 Ludhiana Court complex blast from across the border. “He had smuggled these IEDs with the help of Pakistan-based drug smugglers and their Indian associates, including Harpreet Singh.” This case was initially registered by Punjab Police on December 23 in 2021 and then taken over by the NIA in January 2022.
