Police Investigate Series of Residential Shootings and Homicides in Peel Region: Updates

Today, Peel Regional Police (PRP) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shared information on the joint investigation of recent residential shootings and homicides which are believed to be related. 

The string of events began on November 7, 2023, when PRP responded to a shooting incident on Cottrelle Boulevard and Thorndale Road in Brampton. Two suspects reportedly discharged firearms outside a residence before fleeing in a black Dodge RAM 1500 pick-up truck.

Similar incidents followed, with shootings reported on November 11 and November 14, 2023, in the same area of Brampton. In each case, suspects dressed in black hoodies fired shots at residences before making their getaway, once in a burgundy Dodge RAM 1500 pick-up truck and another time in a late model silver Mazda 3 hatchback. No injuries were reported from these shootings.

However, the violence escalated on November 15, 2023, when PRP responded to a homicide on Royal Windsor Drive and Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga. The victim, identified as Jagraj Singh, a 29-year-old man from Brampton, was fatally shot. The suspects are believed to have arrived and fled the scene in a blue Dodge Challenger.

Meanwhile, the Caledon OPP Detachment is investigating a separate shooting incident that occurred on November 20, 2023, on Mayfield Road in Caledon. Tragically, a devastating incident led to the loss of Jagtar Singh Sidhu, aged 57, and his wife Harbhajan Kaur Sidhu, aged 55. Their daughter, Jaspreet Kaur Sidhu, aged 28, remains hospitalized and in recovery. 

The possible suspect was observed entering a black Dodge RAM 2500 pick-up truck, suspected to be stolen, which was later found engulfed in flames at Olde Baseline Road and Creditview Road in Caledon. Police have confirmed that this was a case of mistaken identity, as the suspects had no connection whatsoever with the Sidhu family.

Furthermore, investigators are seeking assistance in identifying a person of interest in relation to the theft of the alleged stolen truck, which was taken on November 14, 2023, in Mississauga.

Although authorities believe that all the shootings were targeted, it’s concerning that the victims in the homicides were not the intended targets, indicating a dangerous level of violence and recklessness.

Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police are urging anyone with information regarding any of these incidents to come forward. 

They have established a dedicated tip line at 1-833-941-5570. Anonymous tips can also be shared through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

The investigations are ongoing, with the PRP Homicide Bureau, Caledon OPP Detachment Major Crime Unit, and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch leading the efforts. Forensic services are also being utilized in conjunction with relevant agencies to aid in the investigations.
