Police Makes Arrest in “Smash and Grab” Jewellery Store Robberies In Mississauga And Brampton

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau have charged two people following three “smash and grab” style jewellery store robberies.

On Friday, January 12, 2024, the victims were working at a jewellery store in the area of Dixie Road and South Service Road in Mississauga. At approximately 1:35 p.m., four suspects rushed into the store with their faces covered, carrying hammers. The suspects smashed the display cases, stole various amounts of jewellery, and fled the area in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the victims were working at a jewellery store in the area of Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga. At approximately 6:50 p.m., four suspects rushed into the store with their faces covered, carrying hammers. The suspects smashed the display cases, stole various amounts of jewellery, and fled the area in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the victims were working at a jewellery store located in the area of Kennedy Road and Clarence Street in Brampton. At approximately 3:50 p.m., four suspects rushed into the store with their faces covered, carrying hammers. The suspects smashed the display cases, stole various amounts of jewellery, and fled the area in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

As a result of the quick efforts by responding uniform officers, the stolen vehicle and occupants were located a short distance from the offence. After a brief foot pursuit, two of the four suspects were arrested.

Elijah Roberts, an 18-year-old man from Mississauga, is charged with the following offences:

A 16-year-old young person is also charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery (X3)

  • Disguise with Intent (X3)

They were both held for bail hearings and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of a Young Person’s name; therefore, the identity of the Young Person charged in this investigation is protected.
