Police Release Scary Carjacking Video of Newmarket Gas Station as Suspect Giani Zail Singh Remains at Large
The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Giani Zail Singh Sidhu.
In a bold daylight carjacking caught on camera, York Regional Police (YRP) are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect who targeted a victim pumping gas in Newmarket, Ontario. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, around 6:30 p.m. at a gas station near Mulock Drive East and Harry Walker Parkway.
The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Giani Zail Singh Sidhu, described as a male of no fixed address, standing five-foot-eight, with a thin build, black medium-length hair, and a black beard. He is wanted on multiple charges, including robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and failure to comply with an undertaking.
The surveillance footage, released by police on Tuesday, shows the victim refueling their vehicle when the suspect suddenly approaches and attempts to take control by opening the driver-side door. A brief struggle ensues, interrupted by a good Samaritan who drives up and blocks the suspect’s path with his own vehicle. Despite the effort, the suspect managed to reverse the car, causing damage to the driver-side door and dislodging the gas pump hose before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
