Punjab Budget 2024-25:  No new taxes imposed; focus on Education, Health
Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Tuesday presented the budget proposals of Rs 2,04,918 crore, on the third day of the Punjab Assembly’s budget session here.This is the third budget of the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state.

Cheema said no new taxes have been imposed by the state government which hopes to have a total revenue receipts of Rs 1,03,936 crore in 2024-25, of which own tax revenue will account for Rs 58,900 crore.

The state will also get 22,041 crore as its share from central taxes and Rs 11,748 crore as Grants in Aid from Centre, he added. Against expectations of the AAP government announcing a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 for every woman above 18 years of age, the dire fiscal health of the state prevented the government from announcing this.

The expectations for this assistance was raised after AAP’s Delhi government announced the same in its Budget proposals announced on Monday and the Himachal Pradesh government also announcing this assistance in the hill state. Laying emphasis on education, health, sports and infrastructure, the Finance Minister also highlighted the achievements made by the government in the past year.
