Punjab Police Arrest 4, Recover 36.9 kg of Heroin from Fazilka

Punjab Police has arrested four drug smugglers and recovered 36.9 kg of heroin in Fazilka, Punjab. The police got information about the large quantity of heroin coming from Rajasthan to Punjab and they were able to successfully apprehend them while they were sitting in their car waiting for someone.

In the latest crackdown on drug smuggling and crime in Punjab, the police has apprehended four men and recovered 35 packets of heroin weighing 36.9 kg which they were planning on bringing in to Punjab. The police teams from the Fazilka district got information about the drugs and launched an operation at Fazilka-Ferozepur road near the canal bridge in the area of village Lalo Wali.

The police team found four persons waiting for someone sitting in their cars. The suspects spotted the police party and tried to escape but the police teams managed to apprehend them. They have been identified as Manpreet Singh, Jaspal Singh alias Gopi, Sukhdev Singh, and Dyalvinder Singh, all residents of Tarn Taran district.

Along with the drugs, the police also recovered two cars including a white Hyundai Elantra and a silver Honda Civic. DGP Gaurav Yadav shared, “During checking, Police teams have recovered 23 packets of heroin, weighing 24.295 Kg, kept concealed inside cardboard enclosure of car windows.” The remaining heroin was recovered after questioning the suspects.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ferozepur Range Ranjit Singh Dhillon added that the accused were coming from Rajasthan after retrieving the heroin consignment dropped from across the border using a drone. More arrests can be expected in the coming days as this is part of a larger drug smuggling module.
