Punjab Police welcomes its first 2 female DGPs

Two among the seven Punjab Police ADGPs promoted to the DGP on Monday made history as the first two female DGPs in the Punjab Police.

Seven ADGPs were promoted to DGPs under an order issued by the state Department of Home Affairs, making the total number of DGPs in the state to 13.

Alongside five others, Gurpreet Kaur Deo and Shashi Prabha Dwivedi were promoted to the DGP ranks on Monday, becoming the first two women to do so.

Varinder Kumar, Ishwar Singh, Jitendra Kumar Jain, Satish Kumar Asthana, Rajendra Namdeo Dhoke were also promoted to the ranks of DGP from AGDP ranks.

“I am delighted at the elevation,” stated Deo, who had previously also held the landmark role of the first female IPS officer in the Punjab Police. A 1993-batch IPS officer, Deo was the seniormost among those promoted.
