Punjab’s Malerkotla scions making political waves in Canada, America
Toronto: The youngest and smallest district of the state, Malerkotla, distinguishes in the region for having at least three villages which have registered eminence through their scions holding very high posts of responsibility in governments of different states of Canada and America at different times.
While a daughter of Jandali Kalan village family has been appointed chief government whip in House of Commons in Brampton, a scion of Jindal family of Khanpur village remained Governor of Louisiana state in America and a son of agricultural family of Banbhaura village served as a minister in Edmonton and currently serving as mayor.
Bobby Piyush Jindal emerged winner as Governor of Louisiana state in United States of America in 2008 and served till 2016. Son of an engineer Amar Jindal of Khanpur village, he had earlier rocked the region when on June 24, 2015, he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election
The daughter of former President of Ontario Sikh Gurdwara Council, Harbans Singh Jandali and Surinder Kaur, natives of Jandali Kalan village, Ruby Sahota, has recently been appointed chief government whip in the House of Commons in Brampton
Amarjeet Singh Sohi is presently holding office of mayor in Edmonton. He has been Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of Natural Resources in the House of Commons in Canada and distinguished as the first south-asian mayor of Edmonton.
