Rahul Gandhi Faces Police Case After BJP MPs Allege Assault During Protests
Gandhi dismissed the accusations as a political tactic aimed at diverting attention from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is facing legal action after BJP MPs filed a police complaint accusing him of injuring two party members during a heated altercation outside Parliament. BJP leaders Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput reportedly sustained head injuries amid simultaneous protests by Treasury and Opposition benches. Both MPs are currently hospitalized, with Sarangi, aged 69, being treated for his injuries.
The complaint, lodged by BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Bansuri Swaraj, and Hemang Joshi, accuses Gandhi of multiple offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, including voluntarily causing grievous hurt, endangering personal safety, criminal intimidation, and even attempted murder.
“Today, we filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for assault and provocation. He pushed our MPs during a peaceful protest near the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament, resulting in two of our members being hospitalized,” Anurag Thakur told reporters.
According to Sarangi, the injuries occurred when Gandhi allegedly pushed Rajput on a staircase, causing him to fall onto Sarangi. “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, who then fell on me. I lost balance and fell as well,” Sarangi recounted.
