Rogers Communications to Expand Cell Service on TTC Network, Introducing 5G Connectivity
It is presently unknown if the service will be accessible to all TTC users or exclusively to Rogers customers until the new technology is fully implemented, which is expected to take two years.
Rogers Communications has recently made an announcement about its acquisition of BAI Communications, a company that signed an exclusive agreement with the TTC back in 2012 to install wireless infrastructure across the transit network.
With the help of this acquisition, the TTC’s mobile service can be improved, and 5G connection may eventually be introduced. In Toronto, the installation of more cell service has become a critical issue, especially in light of worries about access to emergency services and the rising need for constant phone coverage when travelling. It is presently unknown if the service will be accessible to all TTC users or exclusively to Rogers customers until the new technology is fully implemented, which is expected to take two years.
