Severe Weather Alert: Snow, Frostbite Risk, and Freezing Wind Chills Grip Southern Ontario
GTA and beyond to face snow flurries, biting winds, and temperatures plunging to -28°C in some areas.
Southern Ontario residents should prepare for a wintry mix of snow, freezing temperatures, and frostbite risks as Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts an icy start to the week.
Morning Snow and Chilly Winds Across the GTA
Tuesday morning is expected to kick off with snow flurries and a 40% chance of accumulation in cities like Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Toronto, and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Cloudy skies will dominate the day, with temperatures peaking at -4°C. However, the wind chill will make it feel much colder, around -15°C, as gusts reach speeds of up to 50 km/h.
Overnight Frostbite Risks in Northern Regions
As night falls, temperatures will drop even further, hitting a low of -13°C in the GTA but feeling closer to -20°C with the wind chill. Northern regions of the province, including Gravenhurst, Haliburton, Petawawa, Algonquin Park, and Burk’s Falls, face an even grimmer forecast. Wind chills in these areas are expected to plunge to a bone-chilling -28°C, creating a heightened risk of frostbite for those exposed to the elements for prolonged periods.
Residents are urged to dress warmly and limit time outdoors, especially during the evening and overnight hours. Frostbite can develop within minutes in such extreme conditions.
