Surrey Resident Jatinder Singh Arrested For Break-In, Groping Woman

A 24-year-old Surrey resident has been charged following a troubling incident in July where a woman was assaulted in her own home. The suspect, Jatinder Singh, was arrested by Surrey RCMP on August 16 and is now facing charges of break-and-enter and sexual assault.

The incident occurred in the early hours of July 20, around 3:15 a.m., when a woman in the 14100-block of 91st Avenue in Surrey’s Newton area was abruptly woken by a stranger groping her. The intruder fled the scene after the woman cried out for help, leaving the victim shaken but unharmed.

Surrey RCMP launched an investigation immediately following the report. A video of a person of interest was released to the public, which led to the identification of Singh as the suspect just days later.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Surrey RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Tammy Lobb noted that investigators are still seeking more information. “We are releasing a photo of Jatinder Singh as investigators believe there may be more people in our community who have additional information that could assist with advancing the investigation,” Sgt. Lobb said, urging anyone with potential details to come forward.

Singh has since been released under strict conditions, including no contact with the victim and staying at least 50 meters away from her residence or workplace. Additionally, he is prohibited from possessing any weapons or knives.
