Spring in Toronto has started with periods of heavy flurries and near zero visibility and is already causing problems on some of the city’s major roadways.

Ontario Provincial Police were called at a multiple vehicle crash scene at the westbound Eglinton Avenue ramp to Highway 401 earlier this morning.

The incident involved 17 vehicles along with the deployment of airbags, as reported by the Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in the video posted on X.

Multiple individuals were transported to the hospital, while the extent of their injuries not yet disclosed by the officials.

“This is on an overpass, an elevated platform, which may have contributed to some of the freezing and icing conditions,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

A winter travel advisory was issued by Environment Canada which reports a sharp cold front is expected to move south through the area this afternoon.

Narrow bands of heavy flurries combined with gusty northwest winds associated with the front will lead to relatively short but sudden drops in visibility.

The front and associated bands of heavy snow are expected to clear the region later in the afternoon or early evening.

It has been reported by Environment Canada that travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Therefore, be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
