Tragic Two-Vehicle Collision in Caledon, Involving a School Bus Claims Two Lives, Injures Three

A fatal two-vehicle crash in Caledon on Tuesday morning has left two individuals dead, and three others rushed to the hospital. The incident, involving a school bus and an SUV, occurred at the intersection of Heart Lake and Mayfield roads around 7:50 a.m.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find one SUV occupant deceased, while four others from the same vehicle were transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, one of the individuals with critical injuries was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Caledon OPP Sgt. Joe Brisebois expressed the tragedy of the situation, emphasizing its impact, especially near the holiday season. The school bus, with an adult driver and one child aboard, sustained minor injuries, and both were not taken to the hospital.

The collision left the school bus in a ditch on the west side of Heart Lake Road, while the SUV ended up in the ditch on the opposite side. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities are actively investigating the circumstances.

Brisebois noted the complexity of determining what transpired, stating, “Sometimes with collisions, it’s clear what happened, this one it is not.” Investigators are urging witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage of the area to come forward.

For the ongoing investigation, Heart Lake Road is closed from Mayfield to Old School roads, and these road closures are anticipated to persist for several hours. If you have any information, please contact the authorities to assist in shedding light on this tragic incident.
