A dramatic incident unfolded today (July 27) on Highway 401 near Pearson Airport in Mississauga as a transport truck became engulfed in flames in the eastbound lanes, just past Dixie Road. According to Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the driver managed to escape the blazing vehicle unharmed.

The cause of the fire appeared to originate from the truck’s cab, but fortunately, the driver was able to exit the vehicle safely. The incident led to a significant traffic backup on the highway, particularly affecting the approach to Renforth Drive.

Both the express and collectors lanes experienced delays as cleanup operations began. Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and were diligently working on extinguishing the remaining hot spots. Sgt. Schmidt expressed optimism that the cleanup process should be completed within an hour.
