Two Water Main Breaks Cause Flooding in Parts of Mississauga

Two separate water mains in Mississauga broke causing heavy flooding on Friday morning. Crews are working to clear the water which, on Lakeshore Road, is about waist-high. Peel Regional Police also tweeted that sinkholes were forming in the area, leading to the roads being closed till tomorrow.

On Thursday at around 4:30 p.m., Peel Regional Police was informed about a water main break at Lakeshore Road between Lorne Park and Mississauga roads. A video of the scene shared by the police showed waist-high water and cars submerged halfway. It was also reported that two people were stuck in their cars and had to be rescued but there were no injuries. Crews have been at the scene but noticed the formation of sinkholes.

Peel Regional Police shared an update through Twitter and said, “Crews advising that this stretch of roadway will remain closed until approximately 5 pm tomorrow afternoon. Presence of sinkholes are now forming.”

The second water main break took place in the area of McLaughlin Road and Courtneypark Drive. The police were informed about the break at around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning and crews were sent to the scene to clear the area. The area of McLaughlin Road between Rothschild Trail and Courtneypark Drive is closed and it is unclear when it will remain that way.

The reason for these breaks is unknown for now as the police have not shared those details. Travelers have been advised to use alternate routes.
