On Nov 20, 2024, it was reported that the Canadian government has introduced enhanced security measures for travelers heading to India, citing a need for increased caution. Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand announced the measures on Monday, noting that passengers may face delays due to additional screening protocols.

“Transport Canada has implemented temporary additional security screening measures,” said Anand in a statement. “Passengers may experience some screening delays while these measures are in place.”

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), responsible for passenger and baggage screening at Canadian airports, will oversee the enhanced checks. According to a government official who spoke on anonymity, the measures include X-ray screening of carry-on luggage, physical inspections, and hand swabs to detect traces of prohibited substances.
