WestJet Plane Catches Fire After Landing at Pearson Airport, No Injuries Reported

A WestJet passenger plane caught fire right after landing at Pearson Airport in Mississauga last night, Tuesday, May 9. It was called a “minor tail pipe fire” and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it erupted after the engine was shut off post-landing.

WestJet flight WS434 from Edmonton to Toronto landed at Pearson Airport at 8:50 p.m. last night. Upon landing, the aircraft caught fire after the engine was shut down. No one was injured during the incident. An airline spokesperson confirmed the fire and said, “I can confirm WestJet flight WS434 traveling yesterday evening from Edmonton to Toronto experienced a minor tailpipe fire after engine shut down upon arrival.”

The crew was able to immediately exhaust the flames by following standard safety procedures. Emergency crews were called to the scene but they were not needed as the situation was under control by the time they arrived.

The airline also said that there was no risk to any crew members or passengers. All guests deboarded the plane as they normally would. “Our maintenance team has removed the aircraft from service for further inspection,” the spokesperson added.

As of now, it is unclear what caused the fire.

WestJet operates more flights out of Pearson than any other airport. It is a Canadian carrier based in Calgary.
