Young UK Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Jail for Death of Sikh Woman in Reckless Driving Incident

A young UK man has been jailed for six years for the death of a Sikh woman in London after a vehicle accident where the culprit was overspeeding. Hashim Aziz, the 23-year-old man was trying to impress his cousins in his Audi and crashed into the victim’s Vauxhall Corsa.

The incident took place in November last year in West Midlands when 32-year-old Baljinder Kaur Moore was driving to pick her husband up from his brother’s house. She was driving at 62 mph (approx. 100 kmph) when an Audi A3 traveling at 100 mph (approx. 160 kmph) crashed into her car. Two witnesses also saw the Audi A3 fly past them before hearing loud bangs. Reportedly, Aziz was driving fast to try and impress his cousins.

Prosecutor Cathlyn Orchard said at the time that the impact caused the engine of one of the cars to detach from the chassis. Baljinder died on the spot and during the initial investigation of the case, Aziz tried to blame Baljinder for the accident. However, he later admitted to reckless driving and accepted full responsibility for the accident. Adam Morgan, Aziz’s defense counsel said, “He accepts full responsibility for what was a catastrophic accident. He simply shouldn’t have been traveling anywhere near that speed.”

At the time, Baljinder was a new mother to a five-month-old.

Along with six years in prison, a seven-year ban on driving has also been imposed on Aziz. He had no prior driving convictions and a clean criminal record.
